Great Yarmouth Borough Council aims to make its corporate web site, www.great-yarmouth.gov.uk, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week throughout the year, with service disruptions minimised for essential maintenance. Advanced notice will be provided prior to any essential maintenance is undertaken that may affect the performance, availability and/or operation of the website.

The availability of the website is monitored by Sitemorse, a private company which provides statistics based on site tests carried out continuously at fifteen-minute intervals. These statistics are publicly available.

Plain English

We are endeavouring to ensure that all information provided on the website is in plain English and free from jargon.

Alternative Text

All images are provided with suitable alternative text, where appropriate. This text is usually only visible when the browsers auto image loading facility is disabled or when using screen readers.

Text Size & Contrast

The text on this website is styled using a non-fixed value to ensure that the size is controllable by the browser settings. In addition, each page has options at the top right to enable users to change the font size. Each page also enables users to view its content using a different contrast as well as a 'text only' mode that removes all styling and images.

Screen Reader

This website uses Readspeaker as our text-to-speech tool. However, the website functions suitably well in other text-to-speech tools. These tools are extremely useful to those who have sight difficulties, those whose first language isn't English or for those who have difficulty reading. To listen to a page, simply click the 'listen' button available on each page.

Contrast

This site's layout takes into account users who are visually impaired or have difficulties using a mouse, it is fully compatible with popular screen reading software, and can be navigated easily using just a keyboard. If you have any problems finding the information you require try using the keyword search located at the top of every page.

Some users might find screen text easier to read by increasing the size at which text is displayed. To do this you should simply click on the 'Large Text Version' link at the top of every page. Changing the site's background colour can be particularly useful for users who rely on magnification technology as white can produce an uncomfortable glare. It is also possible to change the colour of body text on the site. Both can be achieved by clicking on the 'Change Contrast' link at the top of every page.
