BUILD is a Norfolk based registered charity, established over 40 years ago, led by, and providing services to, adults and young people with learning difficulties and other disabilities. From youth groups in Norwich and Dereham, to a weekly social, leisure and learning club in central Norwich, and a volunteer based community befriending scheme across most of Norfolk, for adults, BUILD supports people to make informed choices about social and leisure activities, that most of us take for granted.
With over 100 volunteers, countywide, BUILD provides free training and ongoing support, including paying out of pocket expenses, to adults willing to give their time and enthusiasm to support others. One to one induction training and safeguarding checks through the Criminal Records Bureau, and local references, help BUILD have confidence that all their volunteers are appropriate to the role, and get the support they need, when they need it.
Volunteer roles range from one to one befriending in a community setting, to promotional, event management and fundraising activities, to help BUILD sustain and develop its services to local communities. “It’s as much about you as it is about us” is BUILD’s volunteering strapline which illustrates its commitment to finding a mutually rewarding role for its volunteers, across all services.
