Historic Building Funding

St Georges and King Street Townscape Heritage Initiative Scheme

Watercolour of St Georges Chapel Development

Great Yarmouth Borough Council has a national reputation in securing external funding for historic building repair schemes. In 2010 the council secured funding for a Townscape Heritage Initiative Scheme, this is a Heritage Lottery Funded scheme aimed at the repair and reuse of historic buildings in King Street and centred around the major restoration works being undertaken at St Georges a Grade I listed building.

The £3.5 million scheme offers grants of up to 60% for all eligible repairs and bringing vacant floor space back into use within the THI area. The scheme is supporting five artists in residence to produce a unique record of the regeneration works and to engage the community with our heritage. There is also a number of historic building skills training events organised with our partners the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings and Great Yarmouth College.
