Infrastructure
Great Yarmouth Borough Council recognises the importance of development support to voluntary and community groups. The council also believes that this support is better provided by the voluntary sector itself, and not by public sector bodies.

The following services are funded by Great Yarmouth Borough Council.
The Great Yarmouth Voluntary Sector Partnership –
Provides development support to voluntary and community groups.
This support includes advice on how to set up a voluntary group, how to access funding and how to recruit and train trustees.
The Partnership also facilitates a range of networks, which help to bring voluntary groups together to share ideas and address concerns.

Norfolk Rural Community Council –
Provides development support to voluntary and community groups in the rural villages of Great Yarmouth.
This support includes advising groups on how to take on and run local services and facilitating groups and networks so that the voice or rural communities is heard.

Norfolk Community Foundation –
The Foundation is working with Great Yarmouth Borough Council to support closer partnership working between voluntary groups and local businesses.
The Foundation also provides a range of local grant programmes to voluntary and community groups.

In addition, the council also funds A4e to deliver the local enterprise support programme called, Enterprise GY. This service includes support to new business start ups and social enterprises.

Employment Related Support
Between 2009 and 2011, the council supported a consortium of 15 local voluntary groups to provide employment related support services as part of the Working Neighbourhoods Fund. Although this funding ended on 31 March 2011, the council provided transitional support to voluntary providers of these services and has recently commissioned some new services.
Transitional Support –
The following voluntary groups received transitional support to continue to deliver employment related support services during 2011/12.
Norfolk Rural Community Council, Family Action, Blue Cat Initiative, Dial
GFS Platform, Move on East, East Anglian Complementary Health, St Mary Magdalene Church, GY & W Mind.
Target Opportunities –
Provides employment related support to local residents living in the ‘ComeUnity’, Make it Happen and Mesh Neighbourhood Management areas.
The service can help with writing a CV, job searches, access to training and interview skills.
Target Opportunities is delivered by Voluntary Norfolk.

Seasonal Employment Project –
A project designed to support local residents to gain employment in the tourism industry and to sustain employment all year round.
The project brings together the employment support that is provided by the voluntary sector, with the skills needs of local residents and local businesses.
The ‘welfare to work to welfare’ cycle is not unique to Great Yarmouth but this project aims to increase skills and opportunities all year round and not just during the peak employment seasons. The project is led by Great Yarmouth Community Trust and includes a range of voluntary groups and Great Yarmouth College.

The Den Life Skills Project –
Great Yarmouth Borough Council supports and funds the Den Life Skills Project in the Southtown neighbourhood.
The project is run by local residents for local residents, and provides a range of life skills training to teenagers and young adults.
Support includes access to employment, money management and parenting skills.

Great Yarmouth Borough Council offers in-kind support to the Business in the Community Programme, which aims to support homeless people, or people at risk of homelessness, into sustainable employment.
The council, along with voluntary and private sector partners, provides work placement opportunities and mentors to support people to gain the skills needed to re-enter the labour market.

Great Yarmouth Borough Council offers in-kind support to the Herbies project, which is based in the Salvation Army, Tolhouse Street, Great Yarmouth.
The project provides a drop in for vulnerable people and can support people to access advice on housing, employment and health.
Herbies also has washroom and laundry facilities.

Advice, Advocacy and Access
The council provides funding to a range of voluntary groups, who support local residents to access appropriate and mainstream services.
Yare Valley Citizens Advice Bureau –
Yare Valley CAB employs a highly trained paid and voluntary staff team to provide advice on a range of matters.
The service can advise on debt, employment, housing, benefits and relationship matters.
In addition, the CAB can help with a range of other problems, including legal issues.

Centre 81 promotes independence through education, recreation and support for people with physical and / or sensory disabilities.
The charity operates a door to door bus service using specially adapted vehicles for people who cannot access conventional public transport.
Centre 81 also provides a range of activities and learning opportunities through its skills centre, which offers people the chance to work on their own or in a group.

First Move provides a range of employment related support services including help with CV writing and access to training.
Furnishaid provides recycled furniture to people on low incomes in Great Yarmouth.
Furnishaid can also provide training and volunteering opportunities for people who want to become involved in restoring and delivering furniture.

Ormiston –
Ormiston operates two Family Intervention Projects in the Great Yarmouth area, one for Anti-Social Behaviour and one for Youth Crime.
The services work closely with families on a long term basis, helping to coordinate the work of other agencies, and supporting families to make changes.
These changes can include parents being supported to undertake an evidenced based parenting programme, such as Webster Stratton, Strengthening Families or Triple P.

The Arts
Great Yarmouth Borough Council funds and supports the work of SeaChange Arts.
SeaChange are a Great Yarmouth based independent not-for-profit arts development charity, which also acts as the arts development and promotion agency for Great Yarmouth Borough Council.
For the last three years, the organisation has staged the Out There Festival in the Borough, which brings together local and international acts. The festival also provides a range of volunteering and involvement opportunities for local residents.
SeaChange can also provide information on arts funding and partnership working.
