inteGREAT Objectives

1. Creating an integrated destination.

·Placing more importance on town gateway and arrival points and movement through different areas.

·Improving pedestrian signage and links from gateways to the town centre, seafront and heritage attractions.

·Creating a different identity and image for different areas within the project.

·Improvements to publication of public transport services, car park security - especially at night - bus station and coach sites, and improved transport systems to link key areas.

2. Improving the natural and built environment.

·Developing key areas of the sea front, the town centre and heritage areas including the landau station, access points to the beach, the jetty area, South Denes,  Broad Row and Market Row.

·Developing and enhancing key buildings and surrounding area, including the Marina Centre and the Tourist Information Centre (seafront).

·Enhancing and promoting increased use of the beach and adjoining esplanade through creation of effective beach management, beach pavilions and water-based activities.

·Increased safety measures for pedestrians.

3. Supporting the evening economy.

·Putting in a new lighting scheme along key routes and at key sites.

·Producing a design guide for cafes in the town centre and seafront.

·Establishing a special host scheme and special events.

·Improving evening transport.

·Implementing crime reduction measures

4. Increasing the amount of money spent on shopping and leisure facilities.

·Diversifying to cater for a wider range of tourist.

·Improving shopping and leisure events.

5. Encouraging enterprise and business growth.

·Encouraging entrepreneurs to promote the night-time economy.

·Enhansing the skills of the local poulation.

·Providing training for business owners / managers.

·Making the town safe and secure in the evening.

·Encouraging all year trading.

6. Developing facilities and access to history, culture and arts sites.

·Developing the Quayside as a location.

·Improving links between key sites.

·Working with the Townscape Heritage Initiative.

7. Enabling Great Yarmouth to become a hi-tech tourist information centre.

·Creating a hi-tech tourist information centre (T.I.C.) which makes good use of network opportunities with regional and national T.I.C.'s through an internet, extranet and intranet system.

·Developing a network of touchscreen information points through the seafront and town centre.

·Developing a computer based system to monitor footfall across key access points on the seafront, in the town centre and within heritage areas.

·Installing web cameras at key sites within all areas.

8. Improving local confidence.

·In parallel to pysical changes there needs to be changes in awareness.

·Workshops to foster civic pride and self esteem will be encouraged.

·A stream of positive information needs to be established for the local, regional and national press so that the changes in the town can be announced and people invited to experience the town for themselves.

·An promotional campaign aimed at local people will highlight the many strengths of the town.

9. Ensuring social inclusion.

·The inteGREAT partners are fully committed to social inclusion and will take steps to ensure that all can participate in the development and implementation of the Integreat scheme.

·Inprovements to buildings and public spaces will take account of the need for disabled access.
