House to House Collections
These are charitable collections made door to door and usually cover more than one day. Some of the big charities hold Home Office Exemption Orders which means they can collect where and when they wish, and do not require a permit from the Local Authority. Those not holding an exemption orders must obtain a permit from the Council.
Permits are issued for ‘bag drops’ and pub crawls as well as door to door to collections via envelopes or collecting tins. Collecting tins must be sealed and all collectors must wear a badge authorising them as collectors.
The Council tries to avoid collections being held on the same dates in the same area, where possible.
How to apply
A House to House Application Form must be obtained from the Licensing section at the Town Hall. 28 days notice prior to the collection must be given, as the Council has to satisfy itself that the charity is bone fide and applicants are fit to conduct a collection. This offers protection to the public.
The Regulations and Returns form must be completed and returned to us after the collection has taken place.
An application form can be downloaded but applicants are asked to contact the Licensing Section before applying, to check availability of dates.
