Street Collections

Street collection permits are issued to people wishing to make a charitable collection on the public highway. Busking is usually for private gain and does not need a licence providing that items are not being offered for sale (e.g. tapes or CD's).

It is our policy to only allow one charity to be collecting on any one day to avoid public annoyance and to give the charities a fair chance of making a reasonable collection.

Collecting tins must be sealed and all collectors must wear a badge authorising them as collectors.

If other equipment is to be used Highways must be contacted by the applicant as stated on the application form.

How to apply
An application form can be downloaded PDF Document Street Collection Application Form but applicants are asked to ring the Licensing Section before applying, to check availability of dates. 28 days notice prior to the collection must be given, as the Council has to satisfy itself that the charity is bone fide and applicants are fit to conduct a collection. This offers protection to the public. The Regulations and Returns form must be completed and returned to us after the collection has taken place.
