Outer Harbour
The port has always had a major influence on Great Yarmouth's economy, initially with the fishing industry and for the past 40 years with the offshore support industry. As the construction of the new Outer Harbour at Great Yarmouth moves to first phase completion in Q1/2009, the integration of this with the existing river facilities (some 3,000m of commercial quays) is likely to be one of the major driving forces behind the town's economy for many years to come.
EastPort UK
In May 2007, Great Yarmouth Port Company Limited took over the operation of the port and to reflect the major investment required to provide a multipurpose port with a much wider appeal, it is now operating under the title of EastPort UK. In June 2007, construction started on the new Outer Harbour.
Offshore Industry
Great Yarmouth has offered support to the offshore oil and gas industry since discovery of the fuels in the North Sea in the 1960s and the support services continue to be a key activity. Around 750,000 tonnes of oil and gas related cargoes move across the port quays each year. There are more than 350 locally based companies employing around 12,000 staff.

Outer Harbour
The completion of the new Outer Harbour in early 2009 will compliment existing facilities by being able to offer direct deep water access (10m) supported by a modern port infrastructure capable of raising the standard of efficiency demanded by complex projects and port users.
The development will see Great Yarmouth become a gateway to the continent and to the world beyond by creating a modern multipurpose port with potential for lo/lo and ro/ro operations together with a significant upsizing in offshore support, renewable energy and project capabilities.
An important part of the new Outer Harbour is the construction of a container terminal which will have significant scope being able to accommodate both the short and mid sea sectors in addition to opportunities further a field. EastPort UK will maximise on its excellent nautical accessibility to offer the highest levels of service without congestion.

The Future
Aside from being Norfolk's premier port and England's leading offshore support facility for the Southern North Sea, EastPort UK continues to build on its recent involvement in the renewable energy sector. The port has also developed specialist skills in handling specific projects and is perfectly placed to extend this business into the future.
Port infrastructure and administrative support systems will be leading edge, ensuring that EastPort UK raises the bar on levels of service and efficiency.
With new management, a new Outer Harbour and new opportunities, EastPort UK is the place to be.
