Train to Gain

What is Train to Gain?

Train to Gain is a service that is driven by quality and responsiveness. The service will offer advice on business needs, match training needs with training providers and ensure that the training is delivered to meet the needs of employers and its employees.

How does it help my business?At the heart of the Train to Gain service is independent and impartial skills advice, provided by Skills Brokers who can provide all or part of the following (depending on what the business needs):

• Analysis of their current skills training within what the business needs.

• Recommendation of appropriate skills training solutions.

• Recommendation and referral to other specialist or business advisers.

• Design and costing of an integrated learning and skills package (using both employer and government subsidy/investment, but defining clearly what the employer needs to invest).

• Recommendation and sourcing of the most appropriate training providers.

• Ongoing support for strategies to address future skills training needs aligned with the business.

There is a range of training and qualifications available through Train to Gain including Skills for Life qualifications, first full NVQ Level 2 qualifications, Apprenticeships and Advanced Apprenticeships and NVQ Level 3 and above.Alongside the core aspects of the Train to Gain service described above are more flexible parts to Train to Gain - these are service enhancements which might be unique to any particular region or local area. Flexible elements may be offered at regional and local level to meet specific priorities such as:

• Support for Foundation Degrees,

• Support for continuation of individual skills development when moving from welfare to work into employment

Beyond 2010

Beyond 2010 is a new initiative to assist small to medium-sized businesses in the East of England give staff new skills to move the business forward.The project works alongside Train to Gain to ensure that businesses can get the skills training that they need. Businesses employing up to 250 staff can contact specialist sector advisors who are able to discuss training needs in detail and agree with the business which training course will best meet their needs. Up to half of the cost of training is available from EEDA and the European Social Fund.Beyond 2010 focuses on ten key sectors of the East of England’s economy:

• automotive and high-tech manufacture

• creative sector

• financial services

• food and drink processing

• life sciences and healthcare

• low carbon and sustainable technologies

• Social enterprise

• sustainable communities and the built environment

• tourism and Olympics 2012

• transport gateways.

Learning & Skills Council (LSC)

The Learning and Skills Council (LSC) is responsible for funding and planning education and training for over 16-year-olds in England.

The LSC has brought together the skills of the Training and Enterprise Councils and the Further Education Council to work with partners, employers, learning providers, community groups and individuals to develop and implement the Government’s 'Learning to Succeed’ White Paper.

The Learning and Skills Council is responsible for the funding and advocacy of provision through:-

• further education

• school sixth forms

• work-based training for young people

• workforce development

• adult and community learning

• information, advice and guidance for adults

• education business links

The Prince’s Trust

The Prince's Trust helps 14 to 30 year olds to develop confidence, learn new skills and get into work.
