One of the aims of the European Union (EU) is to close the gap between the rich and poor areas of the countries in the Union and raise the standard of living for all its citizens. To achieve this the European Union provides funding to areas across all member states to help tackle the particular issues they face. Funding from the EU is a key source of grant supporting activities in Great Yarmouth through a number of different ‘programmes’.
Each of the EU funding programmes are aimed at dealing with different problems such as helping people who are unemployed into work or providing help to small businesses to help them grow. Each Programme provides funding either to geographical areas which are deemed ‘eligible’ for the funding or are based on themes.
