Both the Local Authority and Norfolk police have responsibilities relating to the removal of vehicles which are abandoned on either public or private land.

In Great Yarmouth, there is presently a car clear scheme whereby depending on the circumstances, vehicles can be removed within 24 hours using police powers and within 14 days and 21 days using Local Authority powers in relation to public and private land respectively.

In all cases where a vehicle is suspected of being abandoned, first contact should be with Norfolk Constabulary on 01953 424242.

This is necessary to establish whether or not a vehicle has in fact been abandoned or been involved in any circumstances which could involve Police action relating to a crime etc.

Arrangements for the removal of Abandoned vehicles on behalf of the council is by GYB Services Limited, who can be contacted on – 01493 846846.
