As a busy business port and a major link to offshore activities Great Yarmouth provides vital Export services for food stuffs. Companies who export their food products must ensure they comply with Food Safety legislation and are often required to seek a ‘Health Certificate’. The embassy or consulate of the Country of destination supplies the Company with the details required on the certificate and these are issued by members of the Food Safety Team of Environmental Health following an inspection of the goods to be exported.

There is a charge for food export certificates, please contact the Environment and Health department for a list of current charges made.

Rodent Control

The history of rodent control on board sea going vessels has been important in Great Britain for many years due to our Island status. By ensuring that these vessels are not infested with rodents we can help to prevent the spread of certain diseases from foreign shores.

Merchant ships who’s Country of Origin is not Great Britain are required under International Health Regulations to be inspected at 6 monthly intervals for the presence of rodents. Where no signs of rodents are found they are issued with a Deratting Exemption Certificate. If rodents are found treatment is required and a Deratting Certificate issued once completed.

The Health & Safety and Licensing Team of Environmental Health undertake these inspections and there is a charge made. The charge varies with the size of the vessel and is set nationally.

For a current list of charges made please contact the Environment and Health department.
