It’s official! Great Yarmouth Borough is getting cleaner, greener and a more pleasant place to live. And our ‘In Roads’ campaign is setting out to make things even better.

A report released by the independent Audit Commission today (Thursday June 1st) says the Borough Council’s environment services – which include street cleaning, refuse and recycling, grounds maintenance, including parks, play areas and open spaces – have improved to earn a one-star rating, with ‘promising prospects’ for further improvement.

The Borough Council and its main contractor, GYB Services, are determined to turn those promising prospects into real results – and one of the ways of making a real difference is by working closely with residents and community groups.

The ‘In Roads’ campaign has been launched by the Borough Council and the Advertiser to do just that.

Last week you could see what the efforts of one community, in Cherry Road, could achieve.

This week we are challenging you to come up with ideas that would make you feel happier every time you step outside your front door, or turn the corner into your road or street.

What would you like to see done with a piece of public land that’s become an eyesore?

The ‘In Roads’ campaign wants to hear your ideas for making your local surroundings better – and keeping them that way.

To help you turn your ideas into reality, we will be choosing the most promising projects and helping to make them happen by:

Existing community associations, new groups or individual residents can all enter. And even if your idea isn’t chosen this time, we will try to help you in other ways, including publicity and advice.
