When you think of the seaside in Great Yarmouth, think of one glorious sandy beach stretching almost continuously for over 15 miles, from Winterton in the north to Hopton in the south.

You can always find a secluded spot for that "get away from it all" feeling or join the masses of happy holidaymakers. Safe clean, sandy beaches set the scene for hours of seaside enjoyment.

Award-winning Beaches

Beaches in the Great Yarmouth area have been awarded both the coveted Blue Flag and the top award of bathing quality from the Marine Conservation Society.

Beach Safety

Our trained beach guards patrol Great Yarmouth’s Central Beach and Gorleston beach.  In addition, the Young Citizens Guild operate a ‘tagging’ scheme for young holidaymakers.  A wristband is fitted to enable the police and YCG to trace a child’s address if they become lost.

Buoys on the Seafront

There are 38 boards on the coastline containing Torpedo buoys and emergency telephones. These Torpedo buoys are designed for a proficient swimmer to tow out to a person in difficulties, pass them the lifebelt and tow them back.

These boards are regularly inspected by volunteers. If you notice that one is damaged please telephone 01493 846846.

Alternatively, you can report any problem with beach safety equipment or cleanliness by using the online contact form below:

Beach Attractions

The many beachside attractions mean that you can step off the beach straight into a wonderland of fun and games including trampolines, crazy golf, fun fairs, croquet, putting and bouncy castles.  Numerous beachside cafés are sure to cater for your every need.

Beach Chalets

The number of Beach Chalets in the Borough of Great Yarmouth have diminished over the last 20 years with just a few operators remaining along side our beaches.

Great Yarmouth Borough Council is considering a plan to encourage their existing use and to see the introduction of a new era of rows of colourful beachside chalets. To find out more go to www.beach-chalets.com

Sea Trips

The beach is also a launching pad for sea trips to Scroby Sands, a mile of so off-shore.  The boats take thousands of passengers on an unforgettable journey to view the seals basking on Great Yarmouth’s sand bank.
