By law, the Council has to maintain an electoral register which is a list of everyone in the Borough of Great Yarmouth who is entitled to vote. To be eligible to vote you must be a British, Irish, other Commonwealth or European Union citizen (although European Union citizens are not eligible to vote at Parliamentary elections).

The register is regularly updated using the information from the electoral registration forms that are sent out to every household each Autumn. In addition, you can also register any changes yourself throughout the year if you been missed off for any reason, your details have changed or if you have moved.

It is important to remember that anyone who does not register as an elector will be unable to vote at any elections or referendums which occur while they remain unregistered. Council Tax is a separate register; therefore, even if you pay council tax it does not necessarily mean that you are registered to vote. You should contact the electoral registration section to ensure that you are registered.

If you have moved since the last canvass (which was carried out in September/October, 2007) and wish to re-register to vote, you will need to complete a voter's registration form.

Depending on when we receive your form, it will take about 3-5 weeks to add you onto the register. On the back of the form you will find the deadlines for the receipt of applications.

A voter's registration form is available below and can be downloaded for you to complete and return. Please ensure that you sign it as it cannot be processed without a signature.
