Neighbourhoods and Communities

Great Yarmouth Borough Council is one of 18 National Community Empowerment Champions and as such we are committed to providing opportunities for local residents to get involved from attending Council meetings to being involved at a neighbourhood level.

Following the success of the South and Central Yarmouth Comeunity Programme, the Council has now rolled-out the Neighbourhood Management approach into two further areas, so if you live in one of the areas named below and want to get involved by helping to bring your community together and improve your neighbourhood, then please contact your Neighbourhood Manager.

Residents can also take part in Great Yarmouth Borough Council's participatory budgeting scheme which gives people the opportunity to allocate money towards priorities that they have identified.  Last year's scheme was extremely successful with over 17,000 residents taking part across the Borough and 54 projects being funded.  A copy of the evaluation report for the 2009/2010 scheme is available here (1024Kb).  This year, we are again operating the scheme in several areas of the Borough, including the 3 Neighbourhood Management Areas, Burgh Castle, Caister and Hemsby. So, if you live in any of these areas and want to get involved then please contact either your Neighbourhood Manager or Sarah Davis, Communities Policy Officer on 01493 845928 or by emailing sed@great-yarmouth.gov.uk.
