Neighbourhoods and Communities
Enabling the Big Society
Great Yarmouth Borough Council is striving to support the Big Society agenda across the borough. In 2010-11 the council devolved £60,000 to local communities through participatory budgeting to give local residents a greater say in how money is spent in the areas, over 1,300 residents got involved demonstrating how much residents care about where they live. The council works in partnership with other public, private and voluntary sector bodies to help our thriving community and voluntary sector.

Targetted Support for Residents in Rural Areas of the Borough
To recognise the different issues that urban and rural areas face, the Borough Council is keen to continue supporting rural areas and has extended its funding for a Rural Development Officer through the Norfolk Rural Community Council. Charlotte Stannard covers 21 parishes (including Caister and Bradwell) and her role is to help community groups to develop new or existing projects and assist with tricky matters such as planning, funding, community engagement and governance. For friendly advice and guidance please contact her on 722783 or e-mail charlotte@norfolkrcc.org.uk
Results of a community consultation for a project ‘Access4Life’ revealed that there was a significant gap in knowledge of what services and facilities are available and how to access them. With the help of numerous key partners and direct feedback from rural residents we have created a short Rural Services Guide to help you. Please
