Performance Indicators

How has the Council been performing over the last year? Have we been improving? How far have we met the targets we set ourselves? What targets are we setting ourselves for the future?

We use a range of performance indicators (PI's) as measures to help assess whether we are meeting our targets. PI's are an integral part of our performance management framework and reflect the importance that is attached to service delivery at a local level. Some PI's are set nationally for all councils to report on, other have been decided locally because they are important to the Council, local people and communities. PI's contribute to continuous improvement in both efficiency and effectiveness of services helping us to see if our plans for service improvement are making a difference and whether, in the case of national performance indicators, we are as good as the top 25% of district councils.

Targets help us to focus on what needs to be done to raise our performance levels to match the best performing councils. Auditors and inspectors use targets as evidence of ambition and future priorities. Targets indicate to local people how the Council intends to improve in future and what service improvements it is reasonable to expect from us. We believe that by delivering against our targets we will make a real difference to the lives of the people of the borough.
