A Borough Councillor from 1976 – 1992 and from 1999 onwards. Leader of the Council since 2000 and Mayor 1983/84.A retired secondary school teacher –specialist subjects - geography/history. Educated at the Paston School, North Walsham. Married to Mary with 2 adult children; Helen – a dental major in the army; Andrew - a gas rig technician.

Interests include; - modern political history, sport (football and tennis), and travel. Also a heritage guide for Great Yarmouth.
