Personal Profile
I was born in 1945, went to St Mary’s RC School in Regent Road (sadly demolished and now housing!) Passed the 11+ and went to the Technical High School (now Oriel) in Gorleston until 1961. I worked as a Plumbing Apprentice from 1961 until completing my training in 1966. I then joined the then emerging Offshore Industry in Great Yarmouth working in the North Sea for some 4 years before moving overseas. I worked in the Far East and Middle East for the next 15 years or so before returning to Great Yarmouth in 1985. I then started working for myself and purchased a holiday village in Corton. I moved on from that in 1990 when I took over the Longbar Complex which our family still operates today. During the last 15 years we have also operated the Holkham Hotel and the Garibaldi. The "Gari” we demolished about 3 years ago and there are now houses on the site.
My wife (of 40 years!) Janette and I have two children, Aaron (37) & Shane (34) who both have children of their own: Aaron has two boys and a girl whilst Shane has two boys
My Community activities include being a member of Great Yarmouth (Haven) Rotary Club, Chairman of Hopton Parish Council, Chairman of Night safe. I was also a founding director of the Tourist Authority and was instrumental in getting the CCTV system in Great Yarmouth underway. I have always supported new initiatives that I thought were good for our community.
In 2008 I decided that I would like to take a more pro-active role in the business of Great Yarmouth Inc. With that in mind, I stood as a candidate in a by-election in Bradwell South & Hopton and was fortunate enough to be elected! Since then I have done my best to represent all the people of the ward that elected me, in particular and, in general, everyone in the borough. It is my intention to continue to do that.
