Personal Profile
I am married with three sons and one grandchild. My wife Ann and I are Community people and always doing voluntary work and helping local community organisations. Ann spent many years assisting the Caister Boys Brigade and now is a member of St. John’s Ambulance and sings with the Chorus of St. Cecilia.
I am a Trustee of village Charities for the Playing Field, the Youth Centre and Community Centre. and was a past secretary of two of these. I am currently Chairman of Caister Football Club and past secretary for 20 years. I am currently researching the history of the Football Club.
From 1966 to 1999 I worked for Norwich Union (now Aviva) and at age 50 took early retirement from full time work but continued part time employment until 2005.
I have been a Borough Councillor since 2004, however I was previously elected as County Councillor in 1985 and offered the position of vice Chairman in 2005, then Chairman in 2006. At that time it was a conscious decision to concentrate on the role of Councillor and meant giving up part time work. The highlight of this time as Chairman was to restore links with Norfolk Virginia USA, to visit the City and receive guests afterwards.
I lost the County seat in 2009 just after reaching age 60, however as a Borough Councillor I work closely with the Parish Council which I joined in 1977.
