Freedom of the Borough for High Steward
Michael Falcon CBE, High Steward of Great Yarmouth is to receive Honorary Freedom of the Borough at a special meeting of Council in October later this year.
Leader of the Council, Councillor Barry Coleman said that this is an excellent opportunity to thank the High Steward for his support to the Borough in this his 25th year as High Steward. We are delighted to be able to present him this honour.
Michael Falcon was once the Head Brewer and Director of the fomer Lacons Brewery, since 1996 he has been Chairman of the St Nicholas Preservation Trust and is a great supporter of Caister Volunteer Lifeboat Service.
The last Freedom of the Borough was in 2006 when both Councillor David Thompson MBE and Hemsby Inshore Rescue Service were given Honorary Freedom.
Honorary Freedoms came about in 1208 following the Charter, Michael Falcon’s name will now be added to the millennium plaque in the Town Hall along side, William Pitt the Elder MP and Lord Horatio Nelson.
The High Steward is a lifelong appointment.
