Make Time for Play
Do you know what Playday is? Well it’s time you and your children found out!
Great Yarmouth is celebrating Playday for the first time on Wednesday August 5, and it’s all free!
Playday is a national celebration of children’s right to play, where thousands of youngsters around the country will join in locally organised events. The local event is being organised as part of Great Yarmouth Borough Council’s Big Lottery funded Play Development Project.St Nicholas Recreation Ground, South Beach Parade (between Kings Road and Dickens Avenue opposite the Pleasure Beach) is the venue for youngsters of all ages to build a den, make models from junk and take part in all kinds of events that will let their imaginations run riot.
It is all about free play and there won’t be any organised games or events.
The theme this year is Make Time and that’s just what parents are invited to do, to turn up with their children and enjoy a free day out together. It is a great way for you and your children to meet new people and make new friends.
"All children have the right to play and need time and space to do it in,” said Play Development Worker Adrian Barnes, "We want the day to increase awareness of the benefits of play and encourage more children to quite literally… play.
"There are nearly 90 playgrounds across the borough, Playday will help parents find out about these and other play opportunities.
"We welcome children of all ages but they must be accompanied by a responsible adult. The event starts at 11am and goes through to 3.30pm.”
The events on the day will be offered by different organisations, so Adrian is keen to hear from groups who would like to talk part.
