Thousands of children are breaking up for the Christmas holidays and many parents will be trying hard to keep their excited offspring occupied whilst dealing with all the preparations for the big day.
So what can they do?
Adrian Barnes, the Borough Council’s Big Lottery funded Play Development Worker has a suggestion;
“There are over 80 playgrounds across the Borough offering lots of different free play opportunities. Playgrounds not only provide children with something to do but offer a healthy alternative to just sitting at home for prolonged periods. For both children and their parents, playgrounds provide a place to meet up with old friends as well as provide an opportunity to make new friends.
“A Play Survey conducted last year showed that there is a sharp decrease in children regularly visiting playgrounds in the winter. The Playgrounds are still open in the winter and we would invite parents to consider using them more often this time of the year. Children can really benefit from playgrounds at any time of the year not just in the summer!
.....and a few days after Christmas when the toys are perhaps no longer quite so entertaining....the playgrounds will still be there!”
A list of the Borough’s Playgrounds is now on the Council’s website at www.great-yarmouth.gov.uk/environment-planning/play.htm From early next year the public will be able to follow this link to see pictures of all the Playgrounds too.
