Severe Weather Hampers Refuse Collections
The severe weather conditions has made vehicle access to many roads extremely difficult and affected many of our refuse collections.
The refuse crews are continuing to work but are currently about half a day behind for the majority of their rounds. However, the Northern parishes, Martham, Winterton and Hemsby are worst affected and collections in those areas have been ceased for Friday 8th January.
We are asking that residents in all areas leave their bins out as usual and we will get to them when conditions improve. All crews are scheduled for Saturday collections and additional support is planned. Weather forecasts do predict very low temperatures for the weekend and this could have a detrimental effect on these planned collections.
We are hoping to get back to normal as soon as possible although recovery of missed collection will prioritise on black bins which could contain perishable and rotting waste.
We are aware of all bins that have not been emptied and therefore residents do not need to inform us of missed collections. We would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding during this difficult period. Our crews are working hard, in often sub-zero temperatures, to recover the situation.
We would advise residents to look at our website www.great-yarmouth.gov.uk which will be regularly updated when we have more information.
