Emergency planning, regeneration of the Rows and Quayside and a review of funding to parish councils are just some of the challenges facing Great Yarmouth Borough Council’s scrutiny committee over the next few months.
The Scrutiny Committee, which reviews or scrutinises existing services or functions of the Council, has recently agreed its work programme for the 2009/10 Municipal Year. Meetings take place on a six-weekly cycle and are open to the public.
Some of the issues the Scrutiny Committee will be tackling include a review of concurrent and non-concurrent funding to parish councils, Town Hall office accommodation; tender and procurement procedures; green waste and fly tipping; regeneration of the Rows and Quayside; council leases; emergency planning; budget monitoring; and Safer Neighbourhood Teams.
The Borough Council’s Member Services Manager and Scrutiny Officer, Robin Hodds, said: “The work programme this year is very wide ranging and challenging, and a significant number of the reviews to be looked at are very important issues for the Borough.”
Recommendations resulting from the reviews are passed to the Council’s Cabinet for consideration and endorsement.
Meetings take place in the Supper Room at the Town Hall. The next, on emergency planning, will be held at 6.00pm on August 24.
