The Borough joins in with the spirit of Christmas once again this year.
The fun begins with the traditional switching on of the Christmas lights on the evening of Wednesday November 25th 2009 by his Worship the Mayor, Tony Smith plus special guests Father Christmas and Mr Snowman. Joining them for an evening of entertainment on the Heart FM soundstage will be popular breakfast hosts, Rob and Chrissie. The Mayor will push the switch for the town’s Christmas lights at 7 pm, following musical entertainment performances until the Firework Finale at 8 pm.
Gorleston are also busy preparing for the switching on of their festive lights on Friday December 4th. Helen McDermott will be activating the switch at 7 pm and will be joined by special guest Mickey Mouse, who has flown in especially to lead the children to see Santa.
High Street traders have been working hard to make Gorleston a Christmas Wonder Town, with an evening of family festivities from 6 pm -9 pm that will see live acts and carol singing around the tree.
Tickets will also be on sale for a gigantic Christmas raffle is raising money for Palliative Care. "Most high street shops have donated prizes" said Councillor Grey. "This is an exciting time for Gorleston High Street, in a time of financial difficulties, the local high street is the new place to be, and with most of our high street shops full, things are certainly looking up, we hope the evening will celebrate the coming together of local businesses to put Gorleston back on the map"
