Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA)
Proposed Methodology
The Council is updating housing land supply information in accordance with government guidance (Planning Policy Statement 3: Housing) through the undertaking of a comprehensive Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA).
The SHLAA is one of several key documents being prepared as part of the evidence base to inform the emerging Local Development Framework. The SHLAA looks to provide information on the opportunities that exist to meet housing needs in the Borough.
The SHLAA does not, however, allocate land for development. It is undertaken as a technical exercise to determine land availability for potential residential development in the Borough.
The Council consulted with developers, landowners, property agents and other stakeholders, firstly to agree the methodology undertaken against which to assess sites, and secondly to identify sites to be included in the SHLAA process. This consultation period has now closed and the Council is currently drafting the final methodology.which is due to be published on the website shortly.
