Regional Spatial Strategy
The East of England Plan covers the entire region of Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Suffolk. It provides a long term strategy for the sustainable development of the region supporting urban renaissance, economic growth and the housing needs of all sectors of the community, whilst protecting the environment.
The process began in Autumn 2001 and there has been consultation throughout including the preparation of an Options Consultation Document, published in September 2002. The East of England Regional Assembly submitted the draft East of England Plan to the Secretary of State in December 2004 followed by a Examination in Public which closed on 1 March 2006 and subsequent report by the Panel in June 2006.
The Secretary of State's proposed changes were published in December 2006 and further proposed changes in October 2007. The final East of England Plan - The Revision to the Regional Spatial Strategy for the East of England was published on 12 May 2008 and is available to view under useful links.
