Play Development Project

We would like to provide more opportunities for children aged 3-11 to play. Big Lottery has provided cash to pay for a Play Development Worker to help to make this happen.

Some of the things that we have been doing or will do include:

  • Asking children and parents questions about Play. Over 2,300 people told us what they think.  We are now doing work to help with many of the things that were said.

  • Great Yarmouth’s first Playday event as part of National Playday 2009 was arranged with help from other people who work with children as well as shops etc.  Lots of children and their families enjoyed the day.  This year’s Playday will be on 4th August 2010, so please let us know if your organisation would like to be involved.

  • We are encouraging play and telling people about what we are doing by talking to people, giving out information through schools, in newspapers, in directories and on this website.

  • A fun piece of play equipment called ‘Snug’ has been bought.  We are taking this around the Borough and hope children aged 3-11 will play with this either in their school or at a community event.  Do ask us if you would like the Snug at your event.  Further information on the Snug equipment can be found by following the link in the box to the right of this page.

  • We are working to make this a really useful website for children and parents who want to find out more about Play.  Did you know there are more than 80 playgrounds across the Borough?!  This website will show pictures and give you more information about them.

  • We are working with other people to promote Play such as Childrens Services, the NHS and schools.
