Re-using Rubbish
Could that item you are about to throw away be of use to someone else?
Is it really broken down and unusable or could it be re-used by others?
If so why not give it to a local charity that could benefit from your donation.
For example, Furnishaid are a local charity that could accept old furniture or electrical goods that are still suitable for re-use. It may also be possible for them to collect from your home. Why not give Furnishaid a ring first on 01493 331919 and see if they could use it or try some of the other charity shops like the British Heart Foundation or Banardo's.
Old Broken Computers?
It doesn't matter if that piece of computer equipment is broken or just old, a new home can be found for it. Recycle-pc is another local charity that will pick up and recycle your old computers for free. It's team are kept busy getting lots of computers up and running and then donating them to the elderly, disabled, charity and community projects. So far they have donated over 4000 computers giving some people a new lease of life.

Freegle
The concept behind Freegle* is simple. We send too much stuff to landfill, but a lot of our "waste" items are actually perfectly usable. We throw things out because they are a bit tatty, or have gone out of fashion, or are broken in some small (but probably fixable) way, or just because we got a new one. Perhaps the charity shop won't take it, or we can't be bothered with the hassle of trying to sell it. Some of us hoard stuff in our sheds, garages and lofts, waiting for the day when "it'll come in handy". What we need is a way for the items to find a new home.
Freegle* helps re-home unwanted but useful items rather than throw them away. Everything offered must be totally free of charge! To find out more, visit the Freegle website.
*Freegle is the new name for Freecycle
