Sustainability

Great Yarmouth Borough Council added  its name, on 25 September 2007,  to over 200 local authorities nationally that have signed the Nottingham Declaration on Climate Change.

The Declaration is a voluntary pledge to address the issues of climate change. It was originally launched in October 2000 at a conference in Nottingham and was re-launched in December 2005 at the Second National Councils Climate Conference.

The Environmental Services Unit provides coherent and consistent response to the challenge of climate change.

Their  role is to

  • Help manage energy consumption in council buildings.

  • Coordinate the development and implementation of the borough’s climate change strategy (mitigation and adaptation).

  • Encourage action on climate change through working with, and providing advice and support to, residents, schools, community groups and businesses.

  • Promote affordable warmth to all residents.
