Shoreline Management Plan

The Kelling to Lowestoft Shoreline Management Plan (SMP) is a review of the 1996 SMP. It is a high level coastal defence policy document which sets out how the North East Norfolk and North Suffolk Coastline will be managed over the next 100 years.

The SMP has been produced by a partnership of North Norfolk District Council, Great Yarmouth Borough Council, Waveney District Council, the Environment Agency, Defra and English Nature. The SMP is intended to take a holistic view of the coast line and its sustainability and is based on the latest available scientific knowledge of the effects the North Sea has upon our coastline and the current legislative and funding arrangements.

The draft SMP has been presented to North Norfolk District Council, Great Yarmouth Borough Council, Waveney District Council and the Environment Agency and public consultation finished on 29th April 2005. The Shoreline Management Plan Final Report was published in November 2006. The Council has commissioned further studies on the the social and economic impact of the plan.

Copies of the SMP can be downloaded from the Anglian Coastal Authorities Group. All the partners, including Great Yarmouth Borough Council, involved in the SMP are members.
