Food Safety Awards

On 1st January 2006 new legislation came in to force to control the standards of food safety and hygiene in premises preparing or selling food for public consumption.

Great Yarmouth Borough Council’s new food safety star rating scheme reflects this change in law and will replace the existing food safety award of excellence scheme.

As of 1st January 2006 any premises receiving a food hygiene inspection will be given a star rating to illustrate the company’s compliance with food safety legislation. All star ratings will be displayed on the Councils Website. The premises may also display their star rating by use of a window sticker and/or certificate provided by the Council.

The newsletter below explains the new rating system.

Premises with a Star Rating

The information on this site has been gathered by officers from Environmental Health in the course of their inspections. Inspections are carried out in accordance with Food Safety Legislation, and the Food Standards Agency Code of Practice.

This website is updated monthly but food premises may only be inspected once in every 6-36 months as specified in the Food Standards Agency Code of Practice.

The score given to food premises on the site has been based on the latest inspection carried out by the Council and as such it represents the situation as found by the Officers on the day of that inspection. Therefore the score may not be representative of the overall, long term food hygiene standards of the premises and should not be relied on as a guide to food safety.

All entries made on the site are checked for accuracy, we make every effort to maintain the accuracy of the information provided. However, the Council gives no warranty as to the accuracy of the information on this website and accepts no liability for any loss, damage or inconvenience caused as a reliance of such information.

Some premises are considered so low risk due to the nature of what they produce or sell that they will not be inspected by us. Instead we contact these premises on a regular basis to check that our details about them are correct and to monitor what they are doing. Those premises will receive a certificate to say they fall outside of the star rating scheme, we will also post their details on this site.
