Caretaker’s Lift / Internal Stairwell Procedures

Every week between each full cleaning cycle a caretaker undertakes the following: -

  • Inspects for defects, fire hazards caused by possessions left in the area and repairs, then reports them to the local Housing Office;

  • Sweeps out if litter / rubbish has accumulated.


Every six weeks (eight weeks over Xmas/New Year period) a caretaker undertakes the following full cleaning cycle:

  • Inspects for defects, fire hazards caused by possessions left in the area and repairs, then reports them to the local Housing Office;

  • Checks and cleans all lights, reporting any not working to the local Housing Office;

  • Cleans all windows he is able to reach considering HSE guidelines;

  • Sweeps out;

  • Washes all floors and banisters;

  • Hoovers all carpets (where applicable).


A caretaker also revisits and cleans if a health and safety incident has occurred.

Every two years a caretaker undertakes the following:

  • Dry steam cleans/seals all floor surfaces.
