Community Safety

...And how to report crime

We are committed to improving community safety and reducing incidents of anti-social behaviour.

The Council works closely with partners, including the Police, Norfolk County Council and private and voluntary sector partners to reduce crime in the Borough.

Neighbourhood Reporting Sites

For those who would rather not report crimes directly to the Police, the ComeUnity Neighbourhood Centre at 143 King Street, Great Yarmouth provides a confidential and informal reporting facility.  Open:  Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 4.30pm.

Hate Crime Reporting

Great Yarmouth Borough Council is a member of the multi-agency protocol for Norfolk.  If you feel that you are a victim of crime because of your:

  • Beliefs

  • Religion

  • Disability

  • Sexual orientation

  • Cultural, ethnic, national or racial origin

  • Actual or perceived age

  • Gender or gender identity

  • or some other aspect of your appear appearance or lifestyle

You can report this directly in any Great Yarmouth Borough Council office.  We are usually open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.  Issues are dealt with in the strictest of confidence and with sensitivity.

Domestic Violence

Police

Housing
If you are a housing tenant or problems are occurring within one of our housing areas or estates, you need to contact one of our Housing offices or our main customer services team.  You may also like to follow this link to find where your local Area Housing Office is located

Environmental Health
For anti-social behaviour issues including noise nuisance, flytipping, abandoned vehicles, dog and animal fouling, etc, please follow this link to contact our Environmental Health team.

Out of Hours Service
There is no Duty Officer outside office hours, however if an event requires an urgent Environmental Health and Housing response there is an Out Of Hours Service that do have the ability to contact an Officer.  Reported incidents and problems not determined as being an urgent incident or emergency will be referred to Environmental Health and Housing the next working day.

Crimestoppers is the largest independent crime-fighting charity helping to remove crime from local communities.

With CrimeStoppers, your anonymity is guaranteed.  Call at any time of the day or night on 0800 555 111 or click on the Crimestoppers logo to pass on information about crime.  

Thanks to information received by Crimestoppers, 19 criminals are arrested and charged every day and a murderer is arrested and charged every 4 days.

Victim Support
Victim Support are the national charity giving free and confidential help to victims of crime, witnesses, their family, friends and anyone else affected across England and Wales.  They are not a government agency or part of the police and you don't have to report a crime to the police to get their help. You can call them anytime after the crime has happened, whether it was yesterday, last week or several years ago.
