Private Landlords and Tenants
Advice on the rights and obligations owed by tenants and landlords is available from the Housing Options Service on 01493 846476 or 01493 846398. Alternatively you can attend a drop-in session at Greyfriars House between 9:00 am and 12:00 midday on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday.
This is a first come first seen service with allocated time slots and you may have to wait. At busy times these tend to fill up early, so you may be asked to return another day. This includes advice on the rights and obligations owed by tenants and landlords.
The Housing Options Service also has powers to prevent unlawful action being taken concerning the following:
Provision of landlord and agent’s details and address for contact, within the tenancy agreement.
Provision of rent books
Unlawful notices of eviction
Harassment.
Unlawful eviction
Disconnecting amenities i.e. gas, electric or water
Partial eviction from part of premises
Interference by unauthorised works not agreed between the landlord and the tenant.
validity of tenancy agreement
disrepair
the wrong time period given on a notice to quit.
