The Government wants every council tenant to have a proper say in how the Council manages your home and is expecting every Council to introduce Tenant Participation Compacts.

Compacts are agreements between the local Council and their tenants setting out how tenants can get involved in local decision making on housing matters which affect their homes, environment and their standard of living.

Tenants and local Councils can set up agreements to cover:-

• Boroughwide compacts which will give tenants the opportunity to influence social housing issues across the Borough, and

• Neighbourhood compacts which will give tenants the chance to look at local problems affecting the quality of life in their area.
