Development Control

The General Permitted Development Order

The General Permitted Development Order sets out the permitted development rights for householders. The Government have confirmed that from 1 October 2008 significant changes will be made to permitted development rights through the introduction of a new General Permitted Development Order. The effect of these changes will be that works previously considered to be permitted development might require planning permission if carried out post 1 October and works that currently need permission after that date might not. The above applies in all circumstances and earlier advice given by Officers both verbally and in writing under the terms of the existing Order might not be relevant in light of the revised Order. This being the case those proposing works after 1 October 2008 are advised to check with the Council whether planning permission is required even if they have done so in the past.

Please use the appropriate general enquiry form to contact us for more advice.

PLEASE NOTE: The Planning Enquiry forms are currently under review in light of the new General Permitted Development Order. Please can you therefore make all enquiries in writing until the new forms are available.
