Safe at Home

Safe at Home is a Home Improvement Agency. The service is non-profit making and run by Great Yarmouth Borough Council.

The Safe at Home project can offer practical advice and help to improve your home by organising a variety of works. This might include access improvements such as ramps and grab rails, or essential repairs like re-roofing or rewiring.

We aim to offer a friendly, professional service to all our clients, regardless of the amount or type of work being carried out. You can find our enquiry form and leaflet at the bottom of this page

Are you Safe at Home?

Do you need help with repairs, maintenance or improvements?

We can help you:

If you are over 60 years of age

or if you are registered disabled

or if you are in receipt of a means tested benefit

We can help you to maintain your independent lifestyle by:

Giving you advice or guidance	Helping you to fill in forms	Choosing competent and reliable contractors	Arranging finance
Carrying out a home safety check	Producing plans or specifications	Making applications on your behalf	Organising and supervising works

What will it cost?

The advisory service, home safety check and help with applying for grants etc. is free. Our fees for plan drawing and supervision of contractors can be added to the cost of the works where financial assistance is provided. These would be between 10% and 12.5% (+VAT) of the cost of the work.

We also provide a Handy Person Service

What can we do?

replace tap washers	replace ball valves	fix grab rails	change door handles
replace light bulbs	unblock waste pipes	replace broken fittings	general minor repairs
ease doors & windows	fit smoke detectors	refit rainwater pipes	remove trip hazards
bleed radiators	fit security locks

We do not do:-

gardening, decorating or cleaning

What does it cost?

• If you receive an income related benefit the cost will be £10 per hour for labour plus the cost of materials used.

• If you are not entitled to an income related benefit, the cost will be £20 per hour for labour plus the cost of materials used.

If you own your home and need help with renovation, improvements repairs, or adaptations let us help you.  We will organise everything on your behalf, from making application for financial assistance to engaging and supervising competent and reliable tradesmen.
