Norfolk Voluntary and Community organisations came together at the Ecotech Centre this week to successfully launch an exciting initiative. ‘Norfolk Unites’ is a new consortium aimed at increasing the funding opportunities for voluntary and community Learning and Skills providers across the county.

Across the eastern region other counties are working with voluntary and community learning and skills providers to create consortia so that as a whole they can work more effectively with strategic and funding organisations like the Learning and Skills Council. Indeed this is part of the Learning and Skills Councils ‘Working Together’ agenda – which acknowledges the vital role that grass roots community and voluntary organisations play in supporting people to gain skills and qualifications and improve their life chances.

Toby Cullingham, the Norfolk Unites Development Co-ordinator facilitated the event. “We were very pleased with the turnout to the launch which brought a mix of voluntary, community sector providers as well as relevant public and private stakeholders together including Norfolk County Council and Adult Education. It is fantastic that Norfolk has this opportunity and that local organisations have recognised the need for this work to move forward and that the work is recognised by other key stakeholders in the learning and skills arena.

Trish Aydin, Chief Executive of Community Connections,  carried out the official launch by unveiling the new look logo and strap line ‘Norfolk Unites’ a one start shop for Norfolk Third Sector learning and skills. Trish said “This consortium has a unique role to play at county level in linking and promoting regional and national  opportunities for local organisations. This is a great opportunity for Norfolk voluntary and community sector providers to really put themselves on the map and gain recognition for the valuable work which is already going on’. This is also where partnership working is valued.

After the successful launch, Norfolk Unites is looking to ensure as many voluntary and community organisations are made aware of this opportunity. If you would like to know more about Norfolk Unites, please go to www.norfolkunites.org.uk.
