The construction of the new Outer Harbour at Great Yarmouth Port is proceeding apace with the twin breakwaters taking shape and dredging activities to form reclamation and to deepen the new harbour basin now underway.

Now that rock delivery and placement operations are nearing completion, the works are entering a new phase with piling for the new quay wall along the northern breakwater, about to commence. During some periods of piling works, noise may be noticeable.

The quay wall tube piling will commence in the first part of May and be carried out over approximately 8-10 weeks. The Contractor, a joint venture between Van Oord Uk Ltd and Edmund Nuttall Ltd,  advises that whilst piling works will take place from approximately 0730 to late evening, operations which may generate noticeable noise will be undertaken generally between 16.00hrs – 20.00hrs Mon – Friday.

The Contractor will also work shorter hours over the weekend carrying out general piling operations, operating between 07.30 – 17.00 on Saturday and Sunday. Except in exceptional circumstances, operations which may generate the most noticeable noise will not take place at all on Sunday.

Glenn Buck, Senior Environmental Health Officer with the Council said, ”The Borough Council remains fully committed in its support for the Outer Harbour development. However, with a civil engineering project on the scale of this development, some disruption is to be expected. To date there has been very few public complaints about the works. Officers from Environmental Health have been working closely with the contractors since the start of the scheme to address environmental concerns and suggest ways to reduce their impact.
