Great Yarmouth Sports Partnership

The Great Yarmouth Sports Partnership was established in January 2003. It plays a key role in bringing external funding into the borough to support community sport and encourage increased sport participation.

Who is involved?

The partnership is made up from representatives of local agencies and organisations from the statutory, voluntary and private sectors who share an interest in sport, or the use of sport, as a tool to address broader issues such as health improvement; education and learning; community regeneration; crime diversion and social inclusion.

Partnership members include:

  • Great Yarmouth Borough Council

  • Great Yarmouth Primary Care Trust

  • Great Yarmouth Sports Council

  • Sport England (East)

  • Norfolk County Council

  • Norfolk Sports Alliance

  • Cliff Park Specialist Sports College

  • Federation of Eastern Sport

  • NACRO

  • Great Yarmouth Youth Offending Team

  • Norfolk Constabularly

  • Norfolk Football Association

  • Norfolk Youth and Community Services

  • Great Yarmouth Disability Forum

  • John Grant School

  • Norfolk Disability Sports

  • Marina Leisure Centre

  • Local Community Associations.

  • East Norfolk School Sports Partnership

What have we achieved?

Successful funding bids to date include the Positive Futures Programme (£95,000); Sport Aid (£25,000); Local Exercise Action Pilot LEAP (£200,000) and the Active England Programme (£150,000).

This funding has enabled many new sport and physical activity opportunities to be developed within the borough.

The Partnership has been recognised by Sport England (East) as a good example of an operational community sport network. The Minister for Sport, the Rt Hon Richard Caborn, visited Great Yarmouth in August 2005 to view first hand the work in action.

The Future

The Partnership will continue to pursue other external funding opportunities as they become available to provide increased provision for sport and physical activity throughout the borough
