Wheeling out the Last of the Bins
PR 162
4 April 2006
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
As the majority of homes in the Borough have now taken delivery of their wheeled bins the Council makes a plea to please use them correctly.
The last 7,000 bins have been delivered and collections are now taking place - but it is already becoming apparent that people, primarily the latest recipients, are not always clear on what can go into their green recycling bin.
“The items which can be recycled include cans, cardboard, plastic bottles, empty aerosol cans and papers,” explained Waste Minimisation Officer Rob Cole. “Papers include magazines, newspapers, telephone directories, home shopping catalogues, letters and junk mail.
“We do realise that it will take a time for people to get used to the new system, but every householder has had a leaflet explaining what can and can’t be put into the recycling bin.
“We can’t take anything other than recyclables in the green bins, and we also ask people to remember to put all their recycling into the bin loose and not in plastic bags. All other domestic waste should be bagged-up and placed in the grey rubbish bin.
“There is a telephone number people can call if they want advice 01493 846846. We hope that with some help, residents will soon be using their bins correctly - as the majority of people throughout the Borough do.
“Sadly, if we do get bins that are filled with rubbish we are unable to empty them. Green recycling bins that do have black sacks or other general rubbish in them can contaminate the whole collection vehicle, and so the Council will not collect them until the contamination has been removed.”
