Youngsters from around Britain Playing Football in Gorleston
PR 163
5 April 2006
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Up to 100 teams of young footballers are playing in tournaments at Magdalen Recreation ground in Gorleston over the next two weeks.
Groundsmen from GYB Services, the company that works in partnership with Great Yarmouth Borough Council, have spent weeks getting pitches ready for the tournament which began on Monday 3.
For the last three years Magdalen has been chosen for the standard of its pitches and the help received from GYB Services, by Essex company R & T Tours which has been organising football tournaments for more than 30 years.
Over the two weeks three tournaments are played, with teams ranging from Under 7s to Under 14s. They travel from all over England, Scotland and Wales with accommodation being provided at Vauxhall Holiday Park.
Every youngster receives a trophy for taking part - at the end of the first tournament on Thursday (6) trophies are to be presented by ex-England goalkeeper Ray Clemence.
“Getting ready for the tournament entails ensuring all pitches are brushed and spiked, marked out and any extra requirements for mini pitches over and above our usual allocation,” explained GYB Services Operations Manager Peter Holland.
“There is a good deal of behind the scenes activity as well, such as the provision of wheelie bins and black sacks and cleaning materials for the dressing rooms, as well as organising a catering concession to be on-site for the duration of the tournament. We liaise with the tournament director on a daily basis to ensure smooth running.”
“The pitches are in excellent condition,” said Mark Earnshaw a partner in R & T Tours. GYB Services has done an excellent job for us as usual.”
