Planning for the Next Generation 2006-2012

For Immediate Release

IR8

24 August 2006

Great Yarmouth’s Play Strategy is now out for consultation. Based on the work of the Great Yarmouth Play Partnership, this strategy sets out Great Yarmouth Borough Council’s policies on children’s play, based on the belief that all children should be able to play within their local neighbourhoods and have safe and attractive play spaces within easy walking distance of their homes since early 2005.

The Play Strategy will therefore help to ensure the identified needs of all children and young people regardless of their age or where they live in the Borough.

There is a growing national recognition of the importance of play, perhaps best demonstrated by the new Big Lottery Fund “Children’s Play”. All Local Authorities wishing to access these funds must have a Play Strategy in order to apply. Great Yarmouth Borough Council, with its Play Strategy almost in place, will therefore be submitting an application this year.

For more information and to take part in the consultation please go to the section on Child's Play.

Alternatively you can email eld@great-yarmouth.gov.uk or ring 846442 to request a consultation response form.

Please note the consultation ends on the 15th September
