61st Annual Great Yarmouth Festival of Bowls

The first wood of the 61st annual Great Yarmouth Festival of Bowls will be bowled on Sunday 27th August on the Britannia Bowling Greens.
The festival of Bowls runs from 27th August to 15th September. The tournament is now credited as probably the largest outdoor bowls tournament in the UK, attracting over 1,500 entrants, 100 more than last year. Participants travel from all over the UK and as far as Spain to grace the Great Yarmouth greens in the reputable Festival.
This year’s prize money totals over £8,200 with the top prize at £1,500 for the Men’s Singles Competition.
The Festival is run by Great Yarmouth Borough Council in association with Potters Leisure Resort and is supported by local and national companies.
The Mayor of Great Yarmouth, her Worship Councillor Sue Robinson will officially open the tournament this Sunday and will be joined by local dignitaries, sponsors and friends of the tournament.
Derek Webster, Tournament Manager, has been bowling since 1973 and has organised Great Yarmouth’s Festival of Bowls for the last 13 years said ‘The festival grows and builds in strength each year, this year is no exception and we hope that it will be the biggest and best ever.’
Nicola Gibson, Marketing & Promotions Manager for Great Yarmouth Tourism said ‘the festival is great for the resort, attracting participants and spectators from all over the UK, it is a much loved event and a big hit with the locals too.’
