Great Prospects for Great Yarmouth in Singapore

PR 301

19 December 2006

For Immediate Release

Contracts worth hundreds of thousand of pounds are in the pipeline for Yarmouth companies after a successful trip to Singapore.

Applied Acoustic Engineering, Norfolk Capacitors, Seabed Scour Control Systems, Gardline Marine Sciences and ot2k from Great Yarmouth, e3a3 from Lowestoft and Laurence, Scott and Electromotors (LSE) from Norwich all took part in the Offshore South East Asia (OSEA) exhibition, 5-8 December.

The contingent was led by the Great Yarmouth Marketing Initiative (GYMI) who has helped companies enter new markets by providing cost- and time-effective exhibition opportunities since 1991.

Representatives from China flew in especially to meet with Applied Acoustic Engineering to develop a specific project with a Chinese Scientific Government Department. “The representatives were so impressed with our presentation in Singapore that a delegation from the client company flew to our Great Yarmouth office the following week for contract negotiations and an inspection of our manufacturing facility” said Gavin Willoughby, Sales Manager for Applied Acoustics.

If successful, the contract will involve the supply of equipment, operator training and after sales services for consumable spares and ancillaries and be worth an estimated £100,000.

ot2k, completely new to the Asia-Pacific market were impressed by the opportunities in the region. Sales Manager Trevor Bayfield said: “A number of progressive meetings were held during the show.”

Electric motor specialists LSE had some “promising meetings” which are hoped to materialise in the New Year as well as bumping in to some apprentices from years ago now working in the oil & gas industry local to South East Asia.

Two Gardline vessels; MV Ocean Endeavour and MV L’Espoir are currently performing specialist wide seabed mapping services in depths of up to 3,500 metres in South East Asia and representatives from Gardline used the show to test the market for future opportunities.

Seabed Scour Control Systems Limited met with a number of potential new customers at the exhibition and are confident that those meetings will produce new opportunities for the further deployment of its Frond Scour Protection Systems throughout the Far East, and enable it to add to the increasing number of projects it has already successfully completed in that region. “Participating on the GYMI stand was a complete success for us,” said Bob Burgess, Business Development Manager with Seabed Scour.

The show saw an 18 per cent rise in visitor numbers from 2004 with more than 10,000 delegates from all over the world. “It was a great opportunity to promote the supply chain in Great Yarmouth and the region at such an event.” Said Stephanie Pimlott from GYMI, leading the contingent. “It was really interesting to learn about all the opportunities for Great Yarmouth companies around the world.”
