Rogue Wheeled Bins will be left Full of Rubbish
PR 126
1 February 2006
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Great Yarmouth Borough Council has issued a warning that people using wheeled bins that are not those officially distributed by the Council will not have them emptied.
It has recently become apparent that people are purchasing wheeled bins privately and leaving them out with their official bins.
“We have instructed our crews not to empty any bins which are not issued by the Council, or branded with the Council’s logo,” said Graham Jermyn, Director of GYB Services the organisation that carries out waste collection for the Council.
“We do not know where the bins are coming from, and they may well be of a substandard quality which could result in possible health and safety issues with our crews.
“The bins could also damage the lifting gear on the collection trucks which would then affect our ability to empty other bins - thereby causing a problem for other householders.
“Most importantly, wheeled bins have been introduced to increase recycling and reduce the amount of waste going to the landfill. The use of rogue bins is in direct opposition to that policy.
“Anyone experiencing problems with the amount of household waste they are generating, can ring either 01493 846846 to receive advice on recycling.”
Both grey and green rogue bins have been appearing on the rounds and both types will be ignored by the refuse crews.
