Liberty's Rock Cafe Fined for Breach of Premises Licence
Liberty’s Rock Café in King Street, Great Yarmouth, has been fined £500 for breaching its premise licence by playing music late at night and serving alcohol.
The fine was imposed at Great Yarmouth magistrate’s court on February 2, in relation to an offence caused on September 25.
Great Yarmouth Borough Council received complaints from local residents that loud music was being played after midnight on Sundays and into the early hours of Monday which contravened Liberty’s Rock Café’s licence.
A police officer investigating the complaint at 1am on a Monday morning found that loud music was being played.
He was let into the premises by Keith Beckett who was the defendant in the court case as the designated premises supervisor. The police officer witnessed one of the 15 adults present pay for a drink, the money put into a till and change given.
Mr Beckett, who did not attend the court case, said at an earlier interview that he was holding a small family party. He admitted that he was aware that for such an event he should have applied for a Temporary Event Notice.
The court imposed a £500 fine and directed Mr Beckett to pay £250 of the Council’s costs.
“The public is entitled to protection under the new licensing laws,” said Councillor Tony Smith Cabinet Member (Resources). “The Council investigates all complaints relating to noise pollution, and will prosecute licensees who break the rules as happened in this case.”
