Fly Tipping Garden Waste Costs Yarmouth Man £500
Fly-tipping garden rubbish has cost a Yarmouth man £500.
Joseph Formosa, of Euston Road, was prosecuted by Great Yarmouth Borough Council after CCTV cameras caught him red-handed dumping the rubbish on a verge by the power station in South Denes Road.
“We worked with Norfolk Constabulary using specialist equipment to provide evidence, such as still photographs from the original CCTV footage,” said Environmental Ranger Miguel Fish.
“The offender was seen to take rubbish from his car and leave it on the verge.
“The power station called us and our environmental rangers completed a successful investigation.
“When Mr Formosa appeared in Great Yarmouth magistrates’ court he was fined £200 with £300 costs. An expensive mistake as he could have taken the garden waste to Caister refuse tip and deposited it there for nothing.”
“We have warned people many times that when we have admissible evidence we will prosecute for fly-tipping offences,” commented Councillor Jim Shrimplin.
“This was excellent team work between our rangers and the police to bring this prosecution about.
“I hope it will act as a warning to others - if you go to the trouble of putting the rubbish into your car why not just take it to the Caister tip for nothing? It could save you hundreds of pounds.”
